Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Just over 12 hours after the UCF football team wrapped up its first practice of the fall camp on Thursday, the Knights were back at it early Friday morning, taking part in the second workout of the year. Much like the opening session, the team worked extensively on fundamental and individual drills for the first hour before moving into team drills for the second hour.
There are several new faces on the field as 25 members of the 2007 signing class were among the Knights practicing during the first two sessions. The classes' athleticism has caught the eye of head coach George O'Leary.
"I think some of the skilled athletes that we recruited in the freshman class have shown some bright spots these last couple of days," O'Leary said. "They just don't know yet. We just have to get them intermingled into what is going on and see how fast they can pick things up."
Among those newcomers making an impression during Friday morning's practice was Sidney Haynes (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge). The true freshman made a nice catch in the endzone during team drills.
"Some of the freshman have great concentration on the ball," O'Leary added. "Sidney made a good catch over the shoulder, changed his body direction. There is going to be some competition there."
The players and coaches will participate in the team's annual Media Day Friday afternoon, which is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. The 2007 team picture will also be taken on Friday, giving most of the staff and team members their first glimpse inside Bright House Networks Stadium.
Fall camp resumes on Saturday with practice No. 3 slated for a 3:20 p.m. start time.
