UCF Volleyball Splits on the Final Day of the Georgia State Invitational

Atlanta, Ga. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Behind two double-doubles from senior outside hitter Schanell Neiderworder (Aurora, Colo./Grandview), the UCF volleyball team (1-3, 0-0 Conference USA) split a pair of matches on the final day of the Georgia State Invitational Saturday. The Knights lost early, 3-1 (20-30, 23-30, 30-28, 26-30), to East Tennessee State before fighting back for a well-deserved win over Chattanooga in the nightcap, 3-2 (30-20, 29-31, 32-34, 30-24, 15-13).

Neiderworder had 18 kills and 12 digs against ETSU (2-1) and added 19 kills and 14 digs against the Mocs (1-2) in the second match.

Sophomore Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo./North Kansas City) also recorded her first double-double of the season against Chattanooga behind a career-high 20 kills and 11 digs for a two-match total of 27 kills and 17 digs. Three additional Knights had double-digit kills against the Mocs, including Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas/Birmingham-Southern) and Jenny Heppert (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State), who had 12 a piece, and Kerry Brown who put down 10.

Serna was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance throughout the tournament, she totaled 43 kills and seven blocks over the weekend.

Freshman Kristen Petrasic (Carrollton, Texas/Creekview) recorded the second-highest number of digs in a match by a Knight when she had 34 (Miriam Metzcus, 35digs, Oct. 14, 1993) against Chattanooga.

Freshman Blaire Brueggemeyer (Burleson, Texas/Arlington Grace Prep) had another solid outing today for the Black and Gold putting up 106 assists between both matches, including a match-high 61 versus the Mocs.

The Knights combined for 21 service aces on the day. Heppert and Brittany Turnbull (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) both had four on the day for the Black and Gold.

The Knights will travel to the Colorado Invitational Aug. 31-Sept. 1, where they will take on UNC-Wilmington, No. 12 California and host Colorado. Friday's matches are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., while Saturday's match time is yet to be determined.
