Atlanta, Ga. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Despite getting a double-double from senior Schanell Neiderworder (Aurora, Colo./Grandview), the UCF volleyball team (0-3, 0-0 Conference USA) was edged by East Tennessee State, 3-1 (20-30, 23-30, 30-28, 26-30), at the Georgia State Invitational early Saturday morning. Neiderworder paced the Knights with 18 kills and 12 digs.
The Bucs improved to 1-1 in the tournament after falling to host Georgia State on Friday.
"We got better production from our outsides today," head coach Meg Colado said. "We are definitely progressing, and I am looking forward to seeing us firing on all cylinders."
Freshman Blaire Brueggemeyer (Burleson, Texas/Arlington Grace Prep) had another solid outing today for the Black and Gold putting up 45 assists and nine digs in the match.
Kristen Petrasic (Carrollton, Texas/Creekview) led UCF with 13 digs, while fellow freshman Brittany Turnbull (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) registered 12 digs and three service aces.
Including three from Turnbull, the Knights combined for 11 service aces against the Bucs. Jenny Heppert (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) also added three.
The Knights conclude the Georgia State Invitational with a match against Chattanooga tonight at 4 p.m.
