Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF football team opened up its 2007 fall camp on Thursday as the Knights worked out under the lights during the opening practice of the season. The players adorned their new white helmets for the session, while practicing in shorts and their practice jerseys.
The team spent extra time working on fundamentals during the first hour of the session as technique was a topic stressed by head coach George O'Leary and his assistant coaches. Special teams work was mixed in at the beginning and end of the session, while the second hour was used for team work.
The evening workout was the first of 18 the team will participate in during fall camp before classes begin for the fall semester on Aug. 20. One position change of note was senior Dominic Ignelzi moved from the offensive line to tight end. He will wear No. 89 for the 2007 season. Sophomore running back Shane Smith also changed numbers, he will wear No. 32 after wearing No. 39 a year ago.
The Knights will return to the practice fields for a morning session on Friday set to begin at 9:20 a.m.
