Fall Camp Q&A With Leger Douzable
Have you accomplished everything you wanted to through fall camp?
"I'm making strides but there is always room for improvement. You can be at the top of your game and once you think you are there, that's when you start making mistakes. So I'm always working to be the best I can be. I'm not at where I want to be, but in the next couple of days I should be where I need to be."
What is one area of your game that you are focusing on the most?
"A lot of people thought that we didn't get to the quarterback enough last year. So we are really putting a big emphasis on pass rush. I'm working on that every day."
As a group, how is the defense coming along?
"I think the defense is pretty sound right now. We still have some work to do, but we should be where we want to be going into NC State."
Besides the pass rush, what else did the defense focus on?
"Mainly tackling. I think we left too many missed tackles on the field last year. So every day now we are constantly working on tackling drills."
When practice is over, what is on your mind?
"I'm always thinking about how this is my senior year. (The seniors) are saying `this is our last year and we are trying to get back to the conference championship like we did two years ago.' I think this team should definitely be able to get back to that game."
Have you started to study NC State yet?
"Yeah, actually some of us have been looking at film. I have been looking at film since the spring to get a jump and a head start on what their tendencies are just to get ready for our practices for the upcoming week."
What can you expect from the Wolfpack?
"Running the ball. They like to run the ball. They have three pretty good backs and they are just going to try and pound us into the ground with the run."
What are your thoughts on having a bye week right after your first game?
"There's nothing you can really do about it. I would have liked to have had two or three games and then an off week. But this is football and you have to adapt to how the schedule goes."
What do you hope to accomplish in your final year at UCF?
"Definitely go first team all-conference. To get there I just have to continually work hard and concentrate on the pass rush. If we get to the quarterback it makes everyone else's job on defense so much easier."
