ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF fans will have the opportunity to exhibit their support for the Knights on Friday, Aug. 31 by wearing black and gold. Florida Governor Charlie Crist has proclaimed the date as College Colors Day throughout the state.
Locally, Orange County Mayor Richard Crotty, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Oviedo Mayor Tom Walters have declared that Aug. 31 is Black and Gold Day in honor of the Knights.
Fans are encouraged to wear UCF apparel in support of the Knights. During the day, the UCF Athletics Association will be striving to promote higher education through increased public awareness that celebrates the achievements of colleges and universities. Leading up to the day, UCF student-athletes will be visiting local elementary schools to read books and share the importance of being a team player.
The day will also serve as the launch of "Are You the MSEC (Most Spirited Elementary Class)?" Local elementary school teachers are encouraged to ask their students to wear black and gold on Aug. 31, take photos of their class and submit the photos to the UCF athletics marketing office by Sept. 7. Photos will be displayed on www.ucfathletics.com and the winning class will receive a visit from UCF cheerleaders and school mascot Knightro.
On campus, the UCF Student Government Association will be holding a tailgate preview party on the Memorial Mall. Students will be able to stop by in their black and gold for complimentary food and prizes.
The Rowdy Knights, a UCF student group that supports athletics, will be traveling around campus with Knightro to encourage faculty and staff members to wear black and gold.
UCF opens the 2007 football campaign on Sept. 1 at NC State. The squad will make its debut at Bright House Networks Stadium on campus on Sept. 15 versus fourth-ranked Texas.
Season tickets for the first campaign at the on-campus stadium are still available and can be purchased by calling 407-UCF-1000. Single-game tickets to the final five home contests are also now on sale.
