UCF's Womens Golf 2007-08 Schedule Announced

Aug. 3, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF women's golf head coach Emilee Klein announced the Knights' 2007-08 schedule on Friday. The Black and Gold will participate in four events this fall before opening its spring schedule in San Juan, Puerto Rico in February.

UCF will open its fall schedule with a trip up north for the Lady Badger Invitational, Sept. 9-10. The event will take place at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisc. Following the season-opening tournament, the Knights have a three-week break before traveling to Lexington, Ky., Sept. 29-Oct. 1, to compete in the Lady Wildcat Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky.

The next event for UCF is the Mercedes Championship in Knoxville, Tenn., Oct. 12-14. The Knights round out their fall schedule in Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the UA/Ann Rhodes Intercollegiate, Oct. 26-28.

"Having a schedule of this caliber allows us to play the best teams in the country every week," Klein said. "This is so important because it pushes my girls to get better and makes them raise their play to the next level. You can't be the best unless you learn to play against the best."

The Knights open their spring schedule in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, Feb. 24-26, before hosting the UCF Challenge, March 9-11. In the event's inaugural season last spring, four of the top six teams in the country made the trip to Orlando, Fla., and a strong field is expected once again for the 2008 event.

"Our tournament really helps elevate our program and I am honored that so many teams want to play in our event again this year," Klein added. "We will have 11 of the top 12 schools in the nation joining us this year and 16 of the top 30, including No. 1 Duke, the three-time defending National Champion."

The Cleveland/LSU Classic in Baton Rouge, La., March 14-16, and the Liz Murphy Invitational hosted by the University of Georgia, March 21-23, round out UCF's regular season competition. The Black and Gold will compete in the Conference USA Championship, April 12-14, in El Paso, Texas. Last year, UCF finished in third place with a team score of 922 at the league championship.

NCAA Regionals will be held May 8-10 and the University of New Mexico will host the 2008 NCAA Championship, scheduled to run May 20-23 in Albuquerque, N.M.
