Aug. 3, 2007

POMONA, Calif. (www.ucfathletics.com) - With 100 extremely talented soccer players converging on Pomona, Calif., this week, UCF women's soccer head coach Amanda Cromwell is right in the middle of it all. The leader of the Knights is part of the coaching staff at the U.S. Soccer U-14 Girls' Development ID Camp, which comes to a close Sunday.

Cromwell has the opportunity to teach many players from across the country who are learning what it takes to compete at both the national and international level. A total of 25 players from four different regions were selected by United States Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program coaches to take part in the camp that started July 30. While there, they receive instruction and play games throughout the week.

The Under-14 program was started in 1999, as the United States continuously ranks as the top youth nation in The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), and one of the most improved in the world.

Cromwell, who will be entering her ninth season at the helm of the UCF program in 2007, has a lot of experience on the national soccer scene. She was a member of the U.S. National Team from 1991-98, and played professional in the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA).

Cromwell and her UCF squad begins the 2007 campaign with a home exhibition match vs. Northern Illinois Aug. 23, and opens the regular season at the Tennessee Lady Vol Classic Aug. 31-Sept. 2.
