Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF softball head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie announced Moday that her program has received a National Letter of Intent from California prep standout Tiffany Lane. The shortstop starred at Canyon Springs High School and will join the Knights this spring as they begin their 2008 campaign.
"Tiffany is a great addition to our program and will add immense versatility to our infield," said Luers-Gillispie. "It was a strong recruiting effort from our coaching staff to acquire one of the top shortstops out of California, and along with the rest of the recruiting class, Tiffany will make an immediate impact for us against Conference USA opponents with her solid hitting and fielding abilities."
Hailing from Moreno Valley, Calif., Lane helped the Cougars advance to a CIF-SS Division II semifinal softball contest for the first time in school history after posting a 26-6 record and claiming the Inland Valley League title last spring.
Following her senior season, Lane was named to the All-Inland Valley first team as well as being named to the CIF-Southern Section second team. The lead-off hitter posted a .521 batting average and led her team with a .607 on-base percentage and 23 stolen bases.
Lane, who played travel ball with the Corona Angels, will be one of three players from California on the Knights' roster this coming year, joining pitcher Lexi Gresham (Fresno, Calif./Clovis West) and first baseman Breanne Javier (Castaic, Calif./Valencia).
Last season the Knights posted a 38-26 record and took home third-place honors at the Conference USA Championship.
