ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Members of the UCF men's and women's golf teams will have a new opportunity to enhance their games this fall. The Knights will utilize a new practice facility that is currently being constructed at the Twin Rivers Golf Club near the UCF campus in Oviedo.
The facility features a six-acre short-game area, in addition to a driving range. Both UCF programs will begin using the facility in September.
"I have been working on constructing a practice to facility to call home for six years and now the dream is finally becoming a reality. The facility will play a huge part in developing our current student-athletes and attracting the best recruits in the state of Florida and the entire nation," said UCF men's head coach Nick Clinard. "Having the ability to work with the Golf Group and McCumber Golf in designing and constructing the facility enabled us to obtain exactly what will help our student-athletes raise their games to another level."
The short-game area will have a pair of putting greens and target greens. The putting greens will each have a different type of grass to prepare the Knights for events.
The area was designed and constructed by McCumber Golf. Construction began in March. Twin Rivers is owned by the Golf Group, an Orlando-based company that owns six courses in the area.
"Not only will the facility help our student-athletes practice better and more efficiently, but it will also entice some of the best golfers to UCF," said women's head coach Emilee Klein. "I am so excited that we will be able to have a facility to call our own."
UCF is exploring the idea of constructing a teaching building at the location. The proposed building is 2,880-square feet.
