UCF Women's Golfer Connelly Cruising Along at the WTNGA Amateur

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Junior Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md.) has been dominating the links this week at the 77th Women's Trans National Golf Association Amateur Championship in Louisville, Ky. A member of the UCF women's golf team, Connelly made it through to the quarterfinals Thursday at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Club.

Connelly was seeded 16th in the field of 64 after posting a two-round score 153 (+9) during qualifying action. On Wednesday, she got by Sydney Crane 3-and-1 in the first round to survive to play Thursday. Connelly then edged two more opponents, the first coming when she defeated Cara Freeman 2-and-1, and followed that up by tearing up the course in a 5-and-4 triumph over Thuhashini Selvaratnam.

Connelly's quarterfinal match will be against Mallory Blackwelder, who is seeded at No. 9, Friday at 7:30 a.m.

This past season for UCF, Connelly, who became eligible to participate for the Knights in the spring after transferring from Ohio State, earned two top-10 finishes in six events. Her highest showing came at the Conference USA Championships where she placed fourth with a three-round total of 224 (+8).
