Summer Student-Athlete Update: Preston Brown

July 11, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF junior Preston Brown (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) is learning about more than golf this summer. A finance major, Brown is interning at a Merrill Lynch office near his home in Ponte Vedra Beach.

Brown, who played in 10 events for the Knights this past year, is working with several brokers at Merrill Lynch. He spends most of his time researching mutual funds and stocks. A few days each week, he works out of the Merrill Lynch office in Jacksonville.

"With the internship, you get to learn the business and see the way it is done in the real world," said Brown. "Work experience is very important. It allows you to apply what you learn in school and also learn the business language."

Merrill Lynch is one of the world's leading wealth management, capital markets and advisory companies.

In April, Brown earned a spot on the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.

Despite his work schedule, Brown is finding time to hit the links. He is slated to participate in the Jacksonville City Amateur Championship this week and also plans to play in a United States Amateur Championship qualifier in early August.

This past year, Brown tied for 16th at the Conference USA Championship. His top showing came in September when he finished sixth at the Topy Cup in Japan. Brown was also one of the five Knights that competed at the NCAA East Regional in May.
