ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF sophomore Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) is competing against some of the top golfers in the nation this week. Stern is participating in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in Wheaton, Ill.
The championship, which began Monday, is being played at the Cantigny Golf Club. The event runs through Saturday.
Stern qualified for the event by posting a two-round score of 142 in June at the Miami Lakes sectional at Shula's Golf Club.
During the 2006-07 campaign, Stern competed in eight tournaments for the Knights. He tied for 11th at the Topy Cup in Japan in September. In April, he tied for 26th at the Conference USA Championship.
