Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - In June, UCF's equipment staff traveled to the Athletic Equipment Managers Association luncheon in Reno, Nev., and walked away with one of the top awards. The Knights were honored as the Conference USA Equipment Staff of the Year, sponsored by Maverick Jackets, which was an accolade voted on by their peers.
"It's very important that we are recognized by our peers and to know that we are getting the job done," said Robert Jones, Coordinator of Sport Equipment Operations. "I was a little surprised we got it. It's not based on wins or losses, it is how cordial and service-oriented we are, such as how everyone put in a lot of work when we hosted the C-USA Softball Championships. This award speaks highly of the whole staff."
Along with Jones, the UCF equipment staff last year consisted of assistant equipment managers John Whitford, Thaddeus Rivers, and Liz DeFelice, senior storekeeper Brooks Walker and intern David Case.
Jones and his staff worked extremely hard this past season to be there for all of the UCF student-athletes. They were instrumental in preparing the football team for all of its home games in downtown Orlando at the Florida Citrus Bowl, as well as hosting two track meets, two women's basketball, volleyball and softball tournaments, the C-USA Men's Tennis Shootout and numerous other events.
