Southern Pines, N.C. (www.ucfathletics.com) - By carding a two-round score of 147 in sectional qualifying June 11 in Illinois, former UCF golfer Ashley Grier (Hagerstown, Md.) is now preparing for the upcoming U.S. Women's Open Championship at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C. The Knight alum will get the first round underway Thursday at 8:50 a.m., while teeing off for the second round Friday at 2:20 p.m.
A member of the 2007 Duramed Futures Tour, Grier has made six cuts with her highest finish being a tie for 25th at the Aurora Health Care Championship June 1-3. Last season, she claimed two titles on the NGA Hooters Tour, as well as the 2006 Maryland Women's Open.
Grier played for UCF from 2004-06 after spending two campaigns at Jacksonville, and dominated the golf course right away. She earned five top-five finishes and second-team All-Atlantic Sun honors in her first year, then followed that up with third-team Conference USA accolades as a senior. She also was named the 2006 C-USA Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year.
