Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF volleyball head coach Meg Colado announced Friday that two Florida prep standouts, Kristin Fisher and Brittany Turnbull, will play for the Knights this fall.
Fisher, a middle hitter and four-year starter at Clearwater High School, was named to the 2006 Florida Class 5A All-State Second Team as well as earning the title of the 2006 St. Petersburg Times' Pinellas County Player of the Year after leading the Tornadoes in kills (291), blocks (103), digs (152) and service aces (84) her senior season.
As a junior Fisher led her squad with 239 kills, securing herself Florida all-state honorable mention honors. Her performance also landed her a spot on the St. Petersburg Times' All-Pinellas County Team for the third-consecutive year, garnering first team honors as a junior and sophomore and third team honors as a freshman.
Turnbull, a libero from Episcopal High School in Jacksonville helped her team to the regional finals her junior and senior seasons, as well as setting a school single-season record in digs (526) in 2005. Her numbers earned her a spot on the 2005 Florida Class 3A All-State Honorable Mention and All-First Coast Volleyball squads along with gaining her national recognition with her selection to the second team in the "National Defensive Dandies" by Prep Volleyball.
Turnbull was a member of the Team Florida squad that took home the bronze medal at the High Performance National Championships and helped her club team win the Florida Regionals for the first time in Jacksonville club history.
