ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Three incoming UCF recruits were selected on Friday in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. All three of the players - Colin Arnold, Stephen Branca and Hunter Hill - signed National Letters of Intent with the Knights and head coach Jay Bergman in November.
Branca (Valrico, Fla./Newsome) was selected in the 34th round by Minnesota. The shortstop was the 1,048 overall pick of the draft.
Hill (Dallas, Texas/Prestonwood Christian Academy) was taken by his hometown team, Texas. The Rangers used their 38th-round pick (1,151 overall) to take the right-handed pitcher.
Arnold (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Daytona Beach Community College) was tabbed in the 47th round by the New York Yankees. The rightfielder was the 1,390th overall selection in the draft. After concluding his prep career at The Kings Academy, Arnold was selected in the 50th round by Boston in the 2005 draft.
