UCF Varsity Eight Concludes NCAA Championship Comp

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 14 UCF varsity eight completed competition at the 2007 NCAA Women's Rowing Championships on Sunday morning at Melton Hill Lake.

The Knights took on California, UCLA and Washington in the third final. The four crews stayed within three seconds of one another in the opening 500 meters before UCF finished fourth at 7:03.18.

Yale won the grand final of the varsity eight, while Brown captured its fifth team title.

UCF's appearance in the NCAA Championships capped off the most successful season in the program's 12-year history as a varsity sport. After starting the season with nine consecutive victories, the varsity eight earned its highest ever national ranking, peaking at No. 9 in the USRowing/CRCA NCAA Division I Varsity Eight poll.

Although this marks the end of the season for the openweights, the lightweight rowers compete at the 2007 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships in Cherry Hill, N.J. from Friday, June 1 through Saturday, June 2.
