Catching up with the UCF Varsity Eight: Robin Capers

UCFAthletics.com continues introducing Knights' fans to the members of the UCF varsity eight that earned the program's first ever bid to the NCAA Championships with senior Robin Capers. A liberal studies major with a minor in early education, Capers is one of two alternates traveling to Tennessee.

When did you begin rowing? What attracted you to the sport?
I started rowing eight years ago as a freshman in high school.

Why did you decide to attend UCF?
I decided on UCF because it had a lightweight rowing program that was competitive and it was close to home.

What is your favorite aspect of being a member of the UCF rowing team?
Being able to competed with a great group of people.

What is the biggest misconception that non-rowers have regarding the sport?
People think rowing is easy but it takes time, mental and physical strength and dedication.

What is your most memorable highlight from the year?
Hearing UCF's name on the conference call for the at-large bid to the NCAA Championship.

How would you describe the American/Canadian dynamic in the boat?
It creates an interesting in boat rivalry that is all in good fun.

What are you most looking forward to about the NCAA Championship?
Hearing the UCF name used with all the other teams.

If the members of the varsity eight competed on Survivor, who would win and why?
Erin Riegel. I think she might be overlooked at first but she is a strong girl who could play mind games.

What are your hobbies off the water?
Spending time with my friends and family.

What are your plans for the upcoming summer?
Working and going on vacation.
