Orlando, Fla. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - The Collegiate Sports Video Association named UCF's John Kvatek the 2006-07 Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year at its annual convention on May 18th. The Matey award is named in memory of the late Texas A&M Video Coordinator Bob Matey.
John Kvatek, who was recently named the Conference USA Video Coordinator of the Year, is entering his fourth year as the Director of Video Services at UCF. With over 19 years of experience in athletics and technology, Kvatek has spent 14 years coordinating Division I multi-media sports support services.
Kvatek was selected among 13 finalists who had all previously been chosen Conference Video Coordinators of the Year by their peers. It is the 2nd time that Kvatek has been selected as a Conference Video Coordinator of the Year. In 1998, he was named the Big Ten Video Coordinator of the Year while at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
At UCF, Kvatek has built an all-sports video and technology support department. Teamed with veteran Video Coordinator Chris Hooley, they have built a department that provides day-to-day support to all sports in the UCF Athletics Association. Kvatek has been integrally involved in the design of TV, MATV, and video production facilities in Brighthouse Networks Stadium, the new home of UCF Football, which is set to open on September 15, 2007. This year, the UCF Video Services Department brought the production of all ten episodes of "UCF Sports Today with Kirk Speraw" (Men's Basketball Coach's Show) back to campus and worked to develop a six episode all-sports spring edition of the show.
Kvatek came to UCF from Pinnacle Systems, Inc., where he worked from 1999-2004. During his tenure at Pinnacle, Kvatek served as a Product Marketing Manager for Networked News and Sports Editing Solutions. Before moving into Product Marketing, he worked as the Manager of Manufacturing and Integration for News and Sports Analysis Systems and as a Customer Sales and Support Representative.
Prior to Pinnacle Systems, Kvatek was the Athletic Video Services Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1995-99. During his time in Madison, Kvatek was responsible for the development and utilization of the world's first digital video network for sports video analysis and editing and was a member of the Kohl Center Design Team.
Kvatek also worked as a Video Coordinator at Virginia Tech (1993-1995) and Miami University (Ohio) (1988-1993) in their respective athletic departments. He is a graduate of Miami University with a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications. He is a member of the Collegiate Sports Video Association (CSVA) and former member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE).
