Alpharetta, Ga. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team shot a final round 297 (+9) on Saturday to place 13th at the NCAA East Regional at the Golf Club of Georgia. The Knights' three-round score of 890 (+26) put them six strokes behind Coastal Carolina, who earned the 10th and final qualifying position for the NCAA Men's Golf Championship from the region's 27-team field.
Georgia pulled away on the final day to win the East Regional by 12 strokes (855, -9) after posting the lowest team score of the three-round event with a 281 (-7). Florida, Auburn and host Georgia Tech shared second place with three-round scores of 867 (+3). Florida's Billy Horschel and Georgia's Brendon Todd shared medalist honors with scores of 210 (-6).
Freshman Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal/The Pendleton School) posted his second-consecutive 73 (+1) to finish his regional play in a tie for 28th with a score of 221 (+5). Henriques was the highest Knight finisher and eagled No. 18 to close out the tournament.
Classmate Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) turned in a final round score of 74 (+2) to post a total of 225 (+9). Stern birded his opening and closing holes of the round.
Junior Giwon Suh (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) posted a 75 (+3) in his final 18 holes to finish with a 223 (+7). Suh led the team with five birdies on the day.
Sophomore Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) also shot a 75 (+3) in his final round and tied for 59th along with Stern at 225 (+9). Sophomore Preston Brown (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) closed with a 79 (+7) to finish his three rounds with a score of 231 (+15).
