UCF And Central Florida Sports Commission Set To Host NCAA Women's Golf Championship

Daytona Beach, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Twenty-four of the best teams in women's collegiate golf are set to embark on Central Florida this coming week as UCF and the Central Florida Sports Commission will host the NCAA Women's Golf Championship at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, May 22-25.

The four-day, 72-hole tournament will be played on the Legends Course (Par 72, 6,351 yards) at the home of the LPGA. Of the 24 teams that advanced through regional play, 22 are ranked in the Top 25 of the latest Golfstat rankings and all squads are among the Top 40 in the country.

"The University of Central Florida and the Central Florida Sports Commission are proud to team together to host the 2007 NCAA Women's Golf Championship at LPGA International," Executive Vice President and UCF Athletics Director Keith Tribble said. "This golf course is among the best in the nation and should be a fitting challenge to the nation's best collegiate women's golf programs.

The top-ranked Duke Blue Devils are vying for their third-consecutive NCAA Championship after winning the team title in 2005 and 2006. The top five players in women's college golf according to the latest Golfweek rankings will also be in the field. Duke's Amanda Blumenhurst leads that quintet entering the tournament ranked No. 1.

Six individuals will also be competing in the tournament for medalist honors. The highest-ranked among those golfers is Florida State's Caroline Westrup, who is No. 3 in the latest Golfweek rankings.

The teams begin arriving in Daytona Beach on Saturday and take to the Legends Course on Sunday and Monday for practice rounds before tournament play commences on Tuesday with round-one action.
