HOUSTON, Texas (www.UCFAthletics.com) - Sophomore Sheree Carter (Tallahassee, Fla./Godby HS) was ranked third in the heptathlon through four events as UCF completed day one of competition at the 2007 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
An all-conference honoree in the pentathlon during the indoor season, Carter opened the morning with a third-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles then claimed second in the high jump with a season-best mark of 5-feet, five inches. She also had a season-best time of 25.53 in the 200m and collected 3,011 points in the four events, which was good enough for third in the rankings.
After taking top honors in the 100m hurdles in 14.88, junior Tia Harewood (Wyandach, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East HS) landed in the seventh place with 2,742 points through four events.
Freshman Jenny Clausen (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial HS) was set to run the 10,000m later in the evening, but lightning in the area caused a suspension of the meet. The race was rescheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET on Friday.
The heptathlon concludes on Friday and competition in the remainder of events continues through Saturday at Wendel D. Ley Track on the Rice University campus.
