ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - One of the greatest softball players of all-time will be in attendance as UCF hosts the Conference USA Championship presented by Coca-Cola this week. Dot Richardson, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, will provide color commentary for CSTV's broadcast of the championship game on Saturday.
An Orlando native, Richardson was member of the United States team in 1996 that claimed the first Olympic gold medal in the sport. She also represented her country in the 2000 Olympics as the United States again claimed the gold medal.
The shortstop was also a member of four squads that claimed the gold medal at the Pan American Games.
Richardson currently serves as the director of the National Training Center in nearby Clermont. She also works as commissioner of the ProFastpitch X-treme Tour.
Richardson was a three-time All-America selection at UCLA and helped the Bruins to the NCAA title in 1982. Inducted into UCLA's Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996, Richardson was named the NCAA Player of the Decade.
The C-USA Championship begins on Thursday morning at the UCF Softball Complex. The title contest is set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised live nationally on CSTV.
