May 2, 2007

PRINCETON, N.J. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - After a weekend without competition, the UCF women's varsity eight dropped two spots to No. 11 but the lightweight stayed at No. 6 for the third straight week in the latest national polls released by USRowing on Wednesday.

The USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll featured much movement from last week. For the third consecutive week Southern California claimed the top spot, while Yale climbed from No. 4 to No. 2 and Notre Dame jumped three spots to No. 3. Former No. 2 Brown slipped to fourth and Virginia stayed at No. 5.

UCF's varsity eight, which celebrated a program-best No. 9 ranking last week, collected 242 points to grab the No. 11 spot.

Meanwhile, there was no movement in the top six spots on the USRowing Lightweight Eight Collegiate Coaches Poll as it remained the same for the third straight week. Wisconsin again edged Princeton for the No. 1 slot. Stanford stayed at No. 3 with Harvard at No. 4 and Georgetown at No. 5. The Knights had 125 points to remain at the No. 6 position.

UCF continue to practice on Lake Pickett but remain on hiatus from competition until the South/Central Regionals from May 12-13 in Oak Ridge, Tenn. For the latest news and information on the Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF varsity sports.
