Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Southern Miss' David Clark pitched a complete-game shutout, while the UCF pitching staff issued seven walks as the Golden Eagles run-ruled the Knights, 10-0, in seven innings Sunday at Jay Bergman Field. The loss dropped the Black and Gold to 17-19 on the season and 1-8 in Conference USA play.

UCF's longest hitting streak of the year stayed alive when Tyson Auer recorded a RBI single in the first inning to extend his streak to 11 games. That was one of just three hits the Knights racked up against starter David Clark (4-2). The righty went the distance and struck out six to help Southern Miss move to 20-13 on the year, 3-6 in C-USA.

Trey Sutton provided Southern Miss with four RBI by crushing two homers in the Golden Eagle victory.

The first four Golden Eagle hitters were retired before UCF starter Brett Bordwine (2-2) gave up a long solo homer to right to Michael Ewing in the second inning. UCF was primed at tying it in the third with Dwayne Bailey getting into scoring position with one out on a walk and stolen base. Matt Horwath followed by ripping a single deep in the hole at short. Brian Dozier got to it and tried to fire to third to get Bailey trying to advance. Dozier's throw was wild and Bailey attempted to score, but the ball went right to Eddie Burger. The catcher came to the plate and waited for Bailey, who side-stepped Burger and stepped on home safely. However, the umpire ruled Bailey went out of the baseline and UCF was kept off the board.

Southern Miss went back to work in the fourth, earning a two-out RBI single by Bailey Hartel to make it 2-0. The Golden Eagles eventually loaded the bases and Bordwine issued a free pass to Burger, the fourth walk of the inning, to stretch it to 3-0. When Matt McClung came on to start the fifth, USM filled the bags again with one down and scored three more times on two walks, two singles, two wild pitches and an error, which made two of the runs unearned.

A Trey Sutton leadoff homer in the sixth pushed it to 7-0, and he jumped on McClung again for a three-run dinger with two down in the seventh, increasing the lead to 10-0. With C-USA having a policy on travel days where a 10-run lead through seven innings constitutes an official game, Sutton's three-run blast secured the series win after the two teams split the first two games of the weekend.

UCF gets back on the road when it travels to No. 22 Florida Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. showdown with the Gators. For the latest news and information on the Golden Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF athletics.
