GAINESVILLE, Fla. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - Junior captain Virginia Traynor (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian HS) took second place in the shot put with a personal-best mark as the UCF women's track and field team opened competition at the Florida Relays on Friday afternoon.
Traynor, whose previous personal best of 45-feet, three inches came at the FSU Relays last weekend, recorded a toss of 45-11.75 to claim second place behind Georgia Southern's Emily Greeson. UCF freshman Jessica Francis (Orlando, Fla./Boone HS) was sixth in the event at 42-2.25.
Elsewhere in the field events, senior Katie Fowke (Tampa, Fla./Riverview HS) placed fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 11-11.75. In the long jump, sophomore Dione Thomas (Jacksonville, Fla./Raines HS) finished seventh with a leap of 18-10.75, while her classmate Ricki Sullivan (Santa Cruz, Calf./Harbor HS) claimed 11th at 18-3.
A week removed from her NCAA Regional qualifying effort at the FSU Relays, junior Victoria Chin (Orlando, Fla./Oak Ridge HS) went 1:02.62 in the 400m hurdles. Sophomore Shantile Blackburn (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Laughlin HS) ran 2:14.62 for 12th place in the 800m and freshman Stephanie Knapp (Englewood, Fla./Lemon Bay HS) finished 16th at 2:15.69.
