ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After four matches at the Boise State Red Lion Spring Break Tournament last week, the UCF men's tennis team returns to the Sunshine State Thursday to take on Stetson in DeLand at 2:30 p.m.
UCF's record now stands at 12-8 after last week's tournament. In its final contest in the event, UCF fell to San Francisco on Saturday in a close 4-3 match.
Freshman Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) and sophomore Jimmy Roesch(Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) recorded victories in singles on the day.
In doubles action, two of the Golden Knight's teams defeated their opponents. The No. 1 team of sophomores Norman Alcantara (Mexico City, Mexico) and Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) improved their doubles record to 15-4 this year with an 8-4 victory over the Dons' Matthew Berry and Thong Tu.
Stetson is 16-6 overall and has wins over Utah, Duquesne, Youngtown State and Davidson. One of the Hatters' top players, Hicham Laalej, is 19-3 overall in singles. In doubles action, Serguei Boulanov and partner Joey Jones are 15-5 on the season.
UCF has a 20-5 edge in the all-time series with Stetson.
