Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Following Saturday's scrimmage, head coach George O'Leary commented that his UCF football team would spend a lot of time in the remaining practices working on third down and red zone situations and those are the two areas the Knights spent an extensive amount of time working on in Wednesday's 10th session of the spring.
With the team working out in shorts and helmets, the defense held the upper hand in these drills as the unit stopped the offense on a majority of the third down attempts and also did a nice job preventing touchdowns in the red zone situations.
The defensive backfield came up with several turnovers in both drills, including interceptions by Darin Baldwin and Breon Rogers in the red zone. Cornerback Joe Burnett also had a nice interception during practice and linebacker Jordan Richards made a diving interception off a tipped pass during team drills.
Junior Rocky Ross was a bright spot on offense as he converted three first downs with 10-plus yard receptions, including a leaping grab on the sidelines.
The Knights have Thursday off from practice, but will return for a 9:20 a.m. session on Friday and a 1 p.m. session on Saturday.
