ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's soccer team concludes its 2007 spring season with an exhibition match at the University of Tampa on Wednesday, April 4 at 7 p.m.
The contest is the sixth that the Knights have played in the past two months. After kicking off on Feb. 13 against Real Salt Lake, they took on a second Major League Soccer club, the Houston Dynamo, the following week then faced a pair of Swedish professional teams - GAIS and BK Hacken.
On March 27, UCF earned a 3-1 win against crosstown rival Rollins. Sophomore Mike Mattson (Boca Raton, Fla./Pope John Paul II HS) netted the opening goal before junior James Georgeff (New Castle, Australia) and sophomore Chris Andaur (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier HS) each contributed a goal and assist in the second half to secure the victory.
"We've had a solid week of training since the game against Rollins," said UCF head coach Bryan Cunningham. "Now we are looking to finish our spring season with a positive result against another good collegiate opponent."
The series against Tampa dates back to October 18, 1977 when the Knights took a 3-0 win. The Spartans and the Knights were Sunshine State Conference rivals from 1979-83, but the last contest was in September 1993 when UT beat UCF, 3-0.
The Spartans are guided by alum Adrian Bush, who is in his second season with the program. They finished the 2006 season at 8-9-1 and lost to Florida Tech in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.
