Barrow, Kime Named Conference USA Players of the Week

April 2, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Freshman Hillary Barrow and junior Allison Kime were named Conference USA Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Monday. The two weekly awards were the third and fourth of the season for the UCF softball team, while it was the first time in UCF softball history that two Knights were honored in the same week.

Barrow had a .714 batting average in UCF's C-USA series with Marshall and a .600 (9-for-15) batting average on the week. In two games against Florida State, the freshman belted three doubles, scored the game-winning run in the Golden Knights' 12-inning victory over the Seminoles and had the game-saving play at second base to secure the 1-0 win. Against Marshall, the second baseman was 5-for-7 with one double and two RBI. In UCF's nine-inning victory on Saturday, Barrow hit a double and scored the game-tying run, as well as making two game-saving plays at second base in the win. For the week, Barrow tallied four doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. The honor was the first in Barrow's career.

Kime pitched two shutouts on the week, including an 18-strikeout shutout against Florida State. The junior hurler allowed only five hits in her win over the Seminoles and pitched 12 scoreless innings. Kime's 18 strikeouts and 12 innings pitched set two new UCF game records. The 12 innings pitched are the second most all-time for a C-USA pitcher (13, Courtney Blades, USM, 2000). In the Golden Knights' series with Marshall, the Brandon, Fla., native fanned 16 batters, allowing only eight hits and two earned runs. For the week, Kime collected three wins and racked up 34 strikeouts in 28.0 innings pitched with a 0.50 ERA. Kime allowed a mere three earned runs in her last 82.1 innings and is only six strikeouts away from breaking UCF's career strikeout record. The honor was the fifth for Kime in her career and the third this season.
