Women's Tennis Takes off for Tulsa and the Conference USA Championship

April 18, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After concluding the regular season with a 10-7 record, the UCF women's tennis team gets ready for the postseason and the Conference USA Championship this weekend. The Knights, who earned the No. 8 seed, travel to Tulsa, Okla., to take on No. 9 East Carolina Thursday at 11 a.m. ET.

UCF and ECU have met just once, a 9-0 victory March 10, 1982. The only C-USA opponent the Knights faced this season was a 7-0 shutout over Memphis March 25. If UCF can get past the Pirates, it will meet No. 1 Tulsa Friday at 11 a.m. ET. The semifinals take place Saturday with the title match getting underway Sunday.

The Black and Gold enter the tournament by winning four of its last five matches, while Kyla McNicol has won 11-straight singles matches. Along with her partner Kenza Belbacha, the duo also has won 11-consecutive contests at the No. 2 doubles position.

In last year's C-USA Championship, No. 8 UCF edged No. 9 UTEP, 4-0, before suffering a 4-0 defeat to top-seed SMU.

East Carolina brings a 19-9 mark into Thursday's match-up and also has won four of its last five outings. The Pirates have used 20 different doubles combinations during dual-match play
