PRINCETON, N.J. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's varsity eight jumped three spots to No. 9 in the latest USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll released on Wednesday.
The Knights' success at the Windermere Real Estate Classic in Redwood Shores, Calif. last weekend earned the team its highest ranking in program history. They opened the regatta on Saturday with wins over then-No. 14 Washington State and former No. 8 UCLA. Until its loss to Washington on Sunday, UCF had gone undefeated this spring with nine consecutive victories.
With a total of 234 points this week, UCF was five points removed from tying Minnesota at No. 8. At the top of the poll, Southern California claimed the No. 1 spot, bumping Brown to No.2, while Ohio State and Yale remained at No. 3 and No. 4 followed by Virginia at No. 5.
In the USRowing Lightweight Eight Collegiate Coaches Poll, the Knights dropped one notch to No. 6. Princeton and Wisconsin shared the top spot with Stanford, Georgetown and Harvard (aka. Radcliffe) rounding out the top five.
UCF competes against some of the best teams in the South Region when they travel to Oak Ridge, Tenn. for the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday April 22.
