IRVING, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team has earned the No. 5 seed at the 2007 Conference USA Tennis Championship and the Knights' women's squad is the No. 8 seed, the league office announced Tuesday. Both the men's and women's tournaments begin this week.
UCF's men's squad will play No. 4 UAB on Friday at 9 a.m. Eastern in Houston, Texas. The women's championship is being held in Tulsa, Okla. and the Knights will play No. 9 East Carolina on Thursday at 11 a.m. Eastern.
Head coach Patricia Allison's women's team finished the regular season with a 10-7 mark. The Knights have won four of their last five matches. The C-USA Women's Championship is an 11-team, four-round event. The winner of the UCF-East Carolina tilt will play top-seeded Tulsa on Friday at 11 a.m. Eastern. The title match is slated for 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The Knights' men's team is 12-11 overall and Bobby Cashman's squad posted a 6-1 victory at home over UAB on Feb. 23. The UAB-UCF winner will face the winner of the No. 1 Tulsa-No. 8 East Carolina match in the semifinals on Saturday at 1 p.m. The men's event features six teams and three rounds and the championship match is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
The winners of the men's and women's titles earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championship.
