UCF Volleyball Adds Texas Prep Standout

April 16, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF volleyball head coach Meg Colado announced on Monday that the Golden Knights have received a National Letter of Intent from Texas prep standout Blaire Brueggemeyer. Brueggemeyer starred at Arlington Grace Prep and will join the Golden Knights this fall as a setter.

A native of Burleson, Texas, Brueggemeyer was a 2006 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools All-State Class 5A First Team selection. She led her team to the state championship match.

"Blaire is a tough and physical setter. She is extremely vocal and is a natural leader," said Colado. "We are so excited for Blaire to join us."

Following her senior campaign, Brueggemeyer was recognized as the Dallas Morning News District 1-5A Player of the Year for the third-straight year. As a junior in 2005, she was also selected as the Denton Record Chronicle District 1-5A Player of the Year.

Brueggemeyer, who also competes for Arlington Grace Prep's track and field team in the long and triple jump events, will be one of three players from Texas on the Golden Knights' roster this upcoming year, joining junior middle blocker Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor) and fellow freshman Kristen Petrasic (Carrollton, Texas/Creekview).

In November, Petrasic signed a National Letter of Intent to attend UCF along with three other prep players - Kerry Brown (Elburn, Ill.), Erin Callahan (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Kelly Weaver (Port Orange, Fla.).

The five recruits will be eligible this fall when UCF begins its third season in Conference USA.
