Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After waiting out heavy rain and wind, the UCF softball team finally got onto the field and took care of business, getting a 1-0 win over UAB at the UCF Softball Complex Sunday. The Black and Gold improved its Conference USA record to 8-7 on the season (32-18 overall), marking the first time in its two years in the league that it had a C-USA record over .500.

Allison Kime (19-7) got the victory in the circle for the Golden Knights allowing only two hits and striking out three in her 12th complete-game shutout of the season.

UCF took the liberty of scoring first as it put one run across in the first inning vs. UAB (27-22, 8-9). Kacie Feaster hit a shot down the third-base line and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cici Alvarez. Kime followed up with a single up the middle, bringing Feaster in to go up 1-0 after one inning.

Both teams had runners in scoring position in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but neither could get a clutch hit to bring the run across.

The Blazers threatened again in the sixth inning, putting runners on second and third base with only one out, but a strikeout by Kime and a grounder to Alvarez put the threat to rest.

Feaster, Kime, Amber Lamb, Hillary Barrow, and Lindsay Dean all registered a hit in the game. Dean and Alvarez also had a huge role in putting runners in scoring position as they both laid down two sacrifice bunts in the contest.

UCF is back in action on Wednesday, April 18, when it travels to Gainesville to challenge in-state rival Florida in a non-conference match-up. That game is set to get underway at 6 p.m.
