UCF Spring Football Practice Report: Day 14

April 12, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Working out in helmets and shorts for the last time this spring, the UCF football team spent Thursday's practice polishing the new offensive and defensive schemes that have been installed over the course of the 2007 spring practice.

Both sides of the ball spent time working in separate units before converging at the end of practice to work in team drills against each other. With no full contact permitted, the defense and offense still went at a fast pace, fine-tuning the execution of the schemes the units have learned over the previous 13 practices.

The special teams for the Knights also got a little extra attention on Thursday as kickoff coverage units and punt coverage units were able to work on their fundamentals.

Senior tight end Mike Merritt made several nice catches for the offense during the team and installation segments of the practice. Walk-on linebacker Robinson Jean was in the right spot to pick off a deflected pass at the line of scrimmage during the team periods.

The scrimmage on Saturday is slated for a 10 a.m. start on the practice fields next to the Wayne Densch Sports Center. Fans planning to attend the event are encouraged to park in the North Parking Garage, which is located at the intersection of Orion and Gemini.
