JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Playing its final match of the regular season, the UCF men's tennis team fell 5-2 at North Florida on Wednesday at the UNF Tennis Complex. The Golden Knights won the doubles point to open the contest, but the hosts claimed five of six singles matches to earn the victory.
UCF (12-11) won at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spots. Sophomores Norman Alcantara (Mexico City, Mexico) and Tarek Ben Soltane (Tunis, Tunisia) won for the Golden Knights at No. 1, defeating Leonardo Gomes and Javier Ferrin, 8-3. Senior Ener Gursoy (Adana, Turkey) and freshman Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) clinched the doubles point with a victory at No. 2. The pair recorded a 9-7 win over Glen Marshall and Matias Sigal.
The Ospreys improved to 12-7 with the win.
The Golden Knights' lone singles triumph came at No. 5, where Gursoy topped Elad Gabay (6-2, 6-3). At No. 1, Sigal rallied for a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 win against Ben Soltane.
UCF will participate in the Conference USA Championship in Houston, Texas, starting Friday, April 20.
