UCF Men's Tennis Concludes Regular Season on Wednesday

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team will play its last match of the regular season against North Florida on Wednesday. First serve at the UNF Tennis Complex is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Golden Knights (12-10) faltered in their last match against Jacksonville at the UCF Tennis Complex last Saturday, 4-3. The contest was UCF's final home match of 2007.

UCF won at all spots in doubles action. Sophomores Norman Alcantara (Mexico City, Mexico) and Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) took the No. 1 spot with an 8-4 win over Francisco Riveroll and Ernesto Ramos. Alcantara and Sakey improved to 15-5 on the season.

Also taking an 8-4 victory was the team of senior Ener Gursoy (Adana, Turkey) and freshman Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden). The pair won at No. 2 against Jordi Ballester and Victor Vaz.

Sophomore Danny Colon (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood) and junior Sinan Sudas (Adana, Turkey) teamed together for the first time this season. The duo took the No. 3 spot against Vinicius Craveiro and Marcos Oliveira, 8-5.

In singles play, UCF captured two of the six spots. Beigart improved his record to 16-5 after recording consecutive 6-4 victories at No. 3 against Ramos. The other win came from Gursoy who took a 6-1, 6-2 win against Craveiro at No. 6.

In its previous match, North Florida (11-7) breezed past Bethune-Cookman, 6-1, on Thursday. The Ospreys took five of the six spots in singles action and all three spots in doubles.

North Florida is 6-5 at home this season.

After playing North Florida, UCF will participate in the Conference USA Championship in Houston, Texas. The event begins on April 20.
