Williams to Speak at Women's Basketball Final Four

March 30, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - UCF head women's basketball coach Joi Williams will deliver the welcome speech to kick off the NIKE So You Want to Be a Coach program in Cleveland, Ohio on Friday, March 30.

"It's an honor to be a part of such an outstanding program that encourages minority women to pursue their dreams of coaching," said Williams. "I feel privileged that these young women look up to me as a role model and I want to convey to them how rewarding it is to achieve success in the coaching profession."

Hosted by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) as part of the Final Four celebration, the Nike So You Want to Be a Coach program is a workshop that provides an educational and professional foundation for minority female basketball players. It strives to better prepare them for entering the coaching profession.

Williams was hired as the 11th head coach in UCF history on March 29 after serving in the same position at Murray State for the last four years. This past season, she led the Lady Racers to a 21-10 record as they earned a berth to the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

UCF senior forward Keunta Miles (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./South Broward HS) will join Williams as a participant in this year's event. Former Knight standout Adrienne Billings, who played for the Black & Gold from 2000-04, attended a past event and is currently an assistant coach at Marshall.

The NIKE So You Want to Be a Coach program continues through April 1. For the latest news and information on the Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF athletics.
