UCF Splits Matches to Open Boise State Tournament

BOISE, Idaho (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team opened play at the Boise State Red Lion Spring Break Tournament on Wednesday, splitting a pair of matches. The Golden Knights (12-6) started the event with a 4-0 win over Weber State and then fell, 5-1, to Texas-Arlington.

UCF is ranked 67th nationally and will return to action at the 16-team tournament on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Eastern against Sacramento State.

Against Weber State at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club, UCF won four singles tilts to take the match. At the No. 1 spot, junior Sinan Sudas (Adana, Turkey) posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Fabio Mancarella. Facing Dave Hintze at No. 4, sophomore Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) eased to a 6-2, 6-1 win.

UCF sophomore Jimmy Roesch (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) topped Chris Williams (6-4, 6-2) at No. 5 and fellow sophomore Norman Alcantara (Mexico City, Mexico) defeated Travis Covington, 6-2, 7-5, at the No. 3 spot. The teams did not compete in doubles.

The Golden Knights will play two more matches at the tournament, which concludes on Saturday.

UCF played Texas-Arlington at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center and the Mavericks won five of six singles contests. The teams did not participate in doubles competition. Sakey recorded the Golden Knights' lone singles victory. He was a 6-4, 6-3 winner against Javier Herrera at No. 4.

The Golden Knights are participating in the event for the second-straight year.
