UCF Men's Golf Finishes Fourth At Hootie At Bulls Bay Invitational

March 27, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Sophomore Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) helped lead the UCF men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Invitational in Awendaw, S.C. Forest was the top Knight finisher overall as he tied for second, equaling his career-best finish with a three-round total of 206 (-7).

The tie for second was the highest finish by a UCF golfer this season and the third top-10 finish of Forest's season and fourth of his career. Overall, the Knights posted a team score of 846 (-6), which was their lowest of the season and fourth-lowest in school history.

Sophomore Preston Brown (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) turned in the best round of the day as he was the only UCF golfer to finish under par in his final round. Brown posted a 70 (-1) to finish in a tie for 13th (212, -1).

Baylor (840, -12) and Wake Forest (840, -12) both surged to the top of the leaderboard to share first place in the team standings after final rounds of 277 (-7) and 278 (-6), respectively. The Golden Knights (846, -6) posted a 289 (+5) to conclude the three-day tournament at the Bulls Bay Golf Club. Florida State (845, -7) took third.

Augusta State's Wallace Booth shot a final round 65 (-6) to edge Forest and Wake Forest's Webb Simpson by one shot to earn medalist honors at 205 (-8).

UCF Freshmen Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal/The Pendleton School) finished the tournament with an even-par total of 213. Henriques tied for 17th to give the Knights three top-20 finishers for the fourth time this season.

Junior Giwon Suh (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) played consistent golf throughout the three days, posting scores of 71 (E), 72 (+1) and 72 (+1), respectively to finish in a tie for 26th (215, +2).

Freshman Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) posted a 74 (+3) in his final 18 holes.

The Knights finished higher than four teams that were ranked ahead of them in latest Golfweek team standings, which should help their positioning for a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals in mid-May.
