Spring Football Practice Report: Day Five

March 27, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Following a two-day break from the practice fields, the UCF football team resumed spring practice with their fifth session of the 15 allowed by the NCAA on Tuesday. The Golden Knights were in full pads for the third time and the intensity from the first week of practice remained at a high level as the team worked out for just over two hours.

Head coach George O'Leary kept a close eye on how his team was executing the schemes and plays that the Knights spent a good portion of their time on during the first four sessions.

"The installation is starting to catch up to some of these guys and they have to start executing," O'Leary said. "I think the big thing is some of these younger guys are starting to emerge. There is a lot more competition out there for these older kids and that is what it should be like."

Besides the usual individual work, the offensive and defensive position units lined up against each other at the beginning of practice to work on blocking and shedding blocks, respectively. The wide receivers went against the defensive backs, the tight ends went against the linebackers and the respective lines squared off against each other.

Those drills carried over into some installation periods before the teams went live towards the end of practice. The practice closed with a scrimmage-type situation at the goal line where both sides of the ball had equal amounts of success.

The Golden Knights Club will begin its seat-selection process for the upcoming 2007 football season for GKC donors and new season ticket holders on April 2. The process will continue throughout the month of April as ticket holders will be able to select their seats and parking location for the inaugural season at Bright House Networks Stadium.
