ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Sophomore Chris Andaur (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier HS) and junior James Georgeff (New Castle, Australia) each recorded a goal and an assist as the UCF men's soccer team defeated Rollins College, 3-1, in an exhibition match on Tuesday night.
"We're learning how to get a result," said UCF head coach Bryan Cunningham. "This team earned a positive result tonight by getting the win. It is the most important thing for these players to learn."
The Golden Knights went up 1-0 just under two minutes into the match when Georgeff played a long ball toward the goal where sophomore Mike Mattson (Boca Raton, Fla./Pope John Paul II HS) used a header to flick it into the net.
UCF continued the pressure earning quality chances to extend the lead. With seven minutes remaining in the half, Rollins' keeper Frazer Siddall made a diving save to prevent another Knights' goal before Tars freshman Michael Aronski tied the score at 1-1 with under a minute left.
Andaur reclaimed the advantage for UCF in the 77th minute on a free kick from the left side that found the top right corner of the net. Ten minutes later, he served the ball to Georgeff, who redirected it past Siddall.
Both Siddall and UCF junior goalkeeper Brian Pope (Durham, N.H./Oyster River HS) made three saves on the night.
"Rollins is a disciplined and formidable opponent. Credit for that goes to head coach Keith Buckley," said Cunningham. "We are looking forward to continuing the rivalry between the two schools in the future."
The Golden Knights conclude their spring schedule at the University of Tampa on Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. For the latest news and information on the Golden Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF athletics.
