UCF Men's Golf Maintains Four-Shot Lead At Hootie At Bulls Bay Invitational

March 26, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team held onto to its four-shot lead following a much different second round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Invitational in Awendaw, S.C. Tougher conditions at the Bulls Bay Golf Club, including high winds, forced scores upward for most of the 15-team field on Monday.

The Golden Knights carded a 288 (+4) to maintain their advantage on the field with a two-round total of 558 (-10). Wake Forest (562, -6), who posted the low-round of the day, climbed into second place in the team standings. The Demon Deacons put together a 279 (-5) as they joined Baylor (280, -4) as the only teams to post under-par rounds. The Bears and Florida State are tied for fourth with a two-round total of 563 (-5).

Sophomore Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) continued his strong play, carding a 67 (-4) to build his individual lead on the field to four strokes. Through two rounds, Forest has a total of 133 (-9) and leads the field with 13 birdies.

Junior Giwon Suh (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) helped keep the Knights in the lead with a 72 (+1) in his second round. Freshman Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal/The Pendleton School) followed up a 67 (-4) with a round of 73 (+2) and is tied for sixth in the individual standings.

Preston Brown (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease), who was the first round co-leader with Forest, struggled in his second round. However, the sophomore closed out his final three holes with a pair of birdies that helped give the Knights, whose lead had shrunk to one late in the day, their four-shot advantage. Brown posted a 76 (+5) and is at even-par for the tournament (142, T15).

The Black and Gold scorched the Bulls Bay Golf Club course in Sunday's first round, breaking the school record with a single day total of 270 (-14).
