ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's soccer team plays host to Sunshine State Conference Champions Rollins College in an exhibition match on Tuesday, March 26. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex. Admission is free to public.
The Golden Knights are coming off a 1-1 regulation tie with Swedish club BK Hacken last Thursday. After going down 1-0 at the intermission, UCF junior James Georgeff (New Castle, Australia) scored in the 63rd minute.
"After playing a solid second half against BK Hacken, our team is anxious to get out and compete again," said UCF head coach Bryan Cunningham. "We're looking forward to renewing the rivalry that existed between UCF and Rollins."
Tuesday's match is UCF's fifth of the spring season, but its first against a college team. The first four contests were against a pair of Major League Soccer teams - Real Salt Lake and the Houston Dynamo - and two Swedish professional clubs - BK Hacken and GAIS.
The series between Rollins and UCF dates back to 1978 and the rivalry flourished when the two schools were members of the Sunshine State Conference from 1979-83. The last official regular season contest was on Nov. 2, 1994 in Winter Park, Fla.
Guided by four-time SSC Coach of the Year Keith Buckley, the Tars won both the regular-season and tournament titles in 2006. They qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament, losing to Lynn in the first round.
The Golden Knights continue their spring schedule at the University of Tampa on Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. For the latest news and information on the Golden Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF athletics.
