ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team will host South Florida on Saturday at the UCF Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled to come at noon. Admission to all home matches is free and the first 50 people will receive a free smoothie from Smoothie King, compliments of the Student Government Association.
Saturday's meeting will be the first between the Golden Knights (10-5) and the Bulls (6-9).
No. 62 UCF dropped its last match to 50th-ranked Denver on Tuesday, 4-3. In doubles, sophomores Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) and Norman Alcantara (Mexico City, Mexico) won at No. 1 against Adam Holstrom and Niklas Persson, 8-6. The pair own a 13-2 mark on the season and have won their last nine of 10.
Freshman Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) won in singles at No. 3 against Persson, 1-6, 6-3, 4-1 (ret.). Beigart improved to 8-1 at the No. 3 spot and 13-2 overall. The Swedish-native also has won his last eight of 10 decisions.
Sakey and sophomores Jimmy Roesch (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) also earned wins in singles play. Sakey won at No. 5 in a super tiebreaker against Kalle Rosen, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8). Sakey's win improved his perfect record at the No. 5 spot to 3-0. Roesch won at the No. 6 spot with consecutive 6-0 victories against Ravjot Dhatt.
The Bulls' last match also came against Denver with the same outcome, a 4-3 loss. South Florida was able to take the doubles point from Denver. Henning Hipp and Daniel Daudt teamed up to defeat Ravjot Dhatt and Nejc Smole at the No. 2 spot, 8-3. At doubles spot No. 3, Marc Jaeger and Ales Svigelj took an 8-6 win over Timo Kienle and Kalle Rosen.
