Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com)- After a 6-1 win over Cal State Fullerton in California last week, the Golden Knights will host a series of home games starting on Wednesday. UCF is set to face Denver on Wednesday at 2 p.m., Dartmouth on Friday at 1 p.m. and Memphis on Sunday at 11 a.m. Admission to all home matches at the UCF Tennis Complex is free.
Following the victory over Cal State Fullerton, UCF improved its record to 6-5. Junior Anna Yakimchenkova and doubles partner sophomore Elvira Serrot are currently 7-4 at No. 1 in doubles with an 8-6 win over Gina Le and Mai-Ly Tran. In singles action Yakimchenkova, Serrot, senior Megan Hunter, senior Becky Gordon and junior Jennifer Carati all recorded wins on the day.
UCF will start off its three-game home series with the No. 36 Denver Pioneers. The Pioneers are 8-5 on the 2007 season with big wins over No. 32 University of Arizona, No. 56 University of Nevada and No. 63 Indiana State University.
The Golden Knights will meet No. 55 Dartmouth in their second game of the home series. Dartmouth holds an 8-2 record on the 2007 season with its only losses coming from nationally ranked teams Davidson and Florida International. The Big Green will face UCF for only the second time in women's tennis history this Friday. The last meeting of the two schools resulted in a 7-0 UCF victory in 2006.
The last game of the home campaign will be against the Memphis Tigers. The Tigers are 1-8 on the season and are 0-2 overall against UCF in the past. The last meeting between the two schools occurred in 2003 with a 4-3 Black and Gold victory.
The Golden Knights next away contest will be held in Las Cruces, N.M., against New Mexico State. The match is slated for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 31.
