Serrot Claims Conference USA Tennis Player of the Week

March 20, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Thanks to a perfect 4-0 individual record during a two-match road swing in California, UCF's Elvira Serrot was named Conference USA Tennis Player of the Week Tuesday. The Madrid, Spain, native helped the Golden Knights improve their record to 6-5 on the season by winning both matches at No. 1 singles, as well as No. 1 doubles.

The honor for Serrot is the first weekly accolade handed out by Conference USA to UCF since it joined the league last season.

Serrot, who has played at No. 1 singles and doubles for the entire season, faced off against UC Irvine's Becky Bernhard March 13. After winning the first set, 7-5, Serrot watched as the No. 81-ranked player in the nation was forced to retire. Serrot followed it up with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 over Cal State Fullerton's top player, Gina Le, the next day. The two victories extended Serrot's winning streak to five matches.

In doubles, Serrot teamed up with Anna Yakimchenkova in posting an 8-3 win over UC Irvine's Clare Fermin and Heidi Kaloi, and an 8-6 triumph over Le and Mai-Ly Tran of Cal State Fullerton. In all, the duo has now won seven of their last eight matches.
