Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team stretched its undefeated streak to three matches Friday with a 6-1 victory over Florida A&M at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Golden Knights jumped to 3-4 on the season, while the Lady Rattlers fell to 5-6 for 2007.
The Golden Knights took all three spots in doubles play. Sophomore Elvira Serrot (Madrid, Spain) and junior Anna Yakimchenkova (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./American School) took an 8-2 decision at No. 1 against Sarah Brinkley and Alice Imozor. Serrot and Yakimchenkova have won their last four in a row.
Sophomore Kenza Belbacha (Casablanca, Morocco) and junior Kyla McNicol (Winnipeg, Manitoba) won at the No. 2 spot storming to an 8-2 victory against Samaria Bailey and Rachel Pye. Belbacha and McNicol took their streak to three in a row with the win.
The Lady Rattlers, who only had five players at the match, conceded the No. 3 spot to junior Jennifer Carati (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and senior Becky Gordon (Tampa, Fla./Appalachian State).
UCF also took five of the six tilts in singles competition. At the No. 1 spot, Serrot took a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Alice Izomor. McNicol won her third straight of the season with consecutive 6-1 victories over Sarah Brinkley at No. 3. Senior Megan Hunter (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson) also took her third win in a row by defeating Ashley Green, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4.
Carati played her first match of the season at the No. 5 spot and was victorious over Samaria Bailey, 6-1, 6-0. Gordon earned her win via default at No. 6.
